Ethane, molecular model. Atoms are represented by spheres (carbon: black, hydrogen: white) with the bonds between them as grey sticks. Ethane (C2H6) is a saturated organic compound. It is an alkane and is used in the petrochemical industry as a feedstock for ethene (ethylene) production. Alkanes have carbon-carbon single bonds, as opposed to alkenes which have a carbon-carbon double bond. For an image of ethene, the equivalent alkene, see image C001/0722.
