Each symbol connected by line represents history of individual crab. In order to test this model, one of the paired bladders of a crab immersed in 100% sea water was evacuated; the crab was then reimmersed in 100% sea water and after a given period, urine from the same bladder was sampled for Mg++ analysis. Thus, for 17 crabs reimmersed 2-24 hours, the mean Mg++ concentration was 69 mM/l. (, 55) and for 16 crabs reimmersed 48-96 hours, the mean Mg++ concentration was 165 mM/l. (, 99), the two means being significantly.
