Compared with the business done dur- ing the latter part of October and the first days of November, the market has been slow this week. The sales amount to an apparently satisfactory total, but this is not a good gauge to go by in these times. Stock is high-priced, which makes the investment greater than ever before. Sales, therefore, should show a decided increase over those of a year ago. But is the increase great enough? everyone reports that sales are better than a year ago. But the im- portant point to note is whether the difiference between the sales and the stock investment is proportionate to that of a year ago. In the last months the growers have been better off than the retailers. Their returns have been good for everything brought in and fancy stock still brings fancy prices. A. local grower brings in pompons, tied twelve sprays to the bunch, and gets $ per bunch. Ordinary stock sells for 75 cents per bunch, and good mums bring $4 per dozen. Th
