INDIAN OCEAN (Nov. 24, 2016) Capt. Mark Melson, commanding officer of the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) addresses Sailors and Marines before Thanksgiving Day dinner on the ship’s mess decks. Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, with the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, celebrated Thanksgiving while underway in the 7th Fleet area of operations in support of security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
