According to a vowwhich her parents made when Hungary was liberatedfrom the Tatars that their next child should be dedi-cated to religion, Margaret, in 1245, entered the Do-minican Convent of Veszprem. Invested with the habitat the age of four, she was transferred in her tenth yearto the Convent of the Blessed Virgin founded by herparents on the Hasen Insel near Buda, the MargaretenInsel near Budapest to-day, and where the ruins ofthe convent are still to be seen. Here Margaret passedall her life, which was consecrated to contemplationand penance, and was venerated as a saint during herlifetime. She strenuously opposed the plans of herfather, who for political reasons wished to marry herto King Ottokar II of Bohemia. Margaret appears tohave taken solemn vows when she was eighteen. Alln
