MAVEN Launches Toward Mars
The United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket with NASA's Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) spacecraft launched from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Space Launch Complex 41 on November 18, 2013 at Cape Canaveral, Florida. The launch stirred Egrets out of their perches in a mangrove swamp. MAVEN is the first spacecraft dedicated to exploring and understanding the Martian upper atmosphere.
