The recital being that ThomasTalley conveyed to John Foulk, Samuel Talley and David Talley a small tract or piece of land to build a saw-millupon. The date is not recited, but it says it was priorto 1780. In an old account book, belonging to William Talley,who was born in 1714, we find a charge under the date 1771against Samuel Talley for one day hauling logs to the saw-mill, and to hauling one load of scanthng to Marshalls house. The charge for the days hauling was £1, and forthe scantling 14 shillings. This mill was in operation, then,before 1771, and no doubt did a flourishing business, andwas the first manufactory in that neighborhood.
