Writing desk and clock (out of one pair) John Webb (act. 1825-1860) Ebony, walnut, tortoiseshell, brass, bronze and enamel marquetry London, August 1857 John Webb, English cabinetmaker and art dealer, made several copies of French furniture. The 18th century prototype of this desk was made for Maximilian Emanuel, Elector of Bavaria (reigned 1679-1726), by André-Charles Boulle. The other bureau is at the Wallace Collection in London as the pair was a commission from the Marquis of Hertford.
