The cartilaginous and sub-periosteal cellsgrow with increased rapidity and exhuberance and in an irregularmanner. As a result the bones do not possess solidity and cannotresist the traction of the muscles (Plate XXXVIII) or outsidepressure. The epiphyses may be displaced or bent, especially inthe ribs, less frequently in the long bone. The long bones or thepelvic bones may be bent in a variety of forms (Plates XXXIX,XL). PLATE XXXVIII.
