At the first balcony deck thestructure widens to 29 feet 6 inches square; at the topof the belfry it is 21 feet 4 inches square. The completion of the stonework of the structurewas not the entire completion of the still remained to construct the incline in theinterior of the monument, which it had been deter-mined should take the place of stairways to give ac-cess to the top.
