The writer knows of one instance at least where the boilerwith a dry pipe made with an open strip around the top gavea good deal of trouble by priming. The steam space was ratherlimited, and it was suggested that the water was drawn by thesteam (aided by capillary action) around the shell throughthis opening into the steam pipe. Whether this was the caseor not, this dry pipe was removed and one similar to the one
