Front view of CUV 217C 1965 The last production standard Routemaster RM 2217 at the Cobham Bus Museum Annual Spring Bus Coach gathering at Wisley Airfield Surrey 5th April 2009 One of the Arriva Heritage Fleet web site www theheritagefleet com On December 9th 2005 the Routemaster finally stopped regular service in London after more than 50 years of active service Although several vehicles were in service that day the officially designated last Routemaster was RM2217 which operated on Route 159 between Streatham and Marble Arch After a second overhaul in 1979 the bus also had two engine changes with an Iveco one fitted in 1991 and a Cummins B series Euro 2 in August 2001 at the same time the vehicle gained an Allison gearbox and Telma electrical retarder In 2004 the outside was painted purple and vinyl used to create the triple decker Knight bus to promote a Harry Potter film
