From the Bowens it came bymarriage to the family of Philips of Picton Castle, and Anno 1740 wasthe property of Sir Erasmus Philips, Baronet. It is by Giraldus Cambrensis styled, the Mansion of Pyrrhus; hesays it was in his time adorned with stately towers and bulwarks;having on the west side a spacious haven, and under the walls, to thenorth and north-west, an excellent fish-pond, remarkable as well for itsneatness as the depth of its water.
