The pilgrim's progress from this world to that which is to come, delivered under the similitude of a dream . ching theprocess, and His own image, His own face reflected, shines in it, clear, bright, not to be mistaken! How beautiful His love, how gloriousHis work of grace in Bunyan! What disinterestedness of motive, what self-renouncing faith, what entire consecration to Christ! Bun-yans language is not merely, Though He slay me, yet will I trust inHim, but, Though He cast me off, yet will I venture for His name! And then how beautiful, how impressive, how bright with the sealof the Divine Spirit in the heart, that breathing of duty and of loveafter God, it was my duty to stand to His Word, whether He wouldever look upon me, or save me at the last or not. It was no wonderthat, after witnessing the result of this trial, Bunyans spiritual foesfled from him in despair, and the angels of the promises came andministered unto him. I would not have been without this trial formuch, said he; I am comforted every time I think of it, and Ihope I shall bless God for ever for the teaching I have had by Jail on the Bridge at Bedford. And now was Bunyan hidden in Gods pavilion, and left alone withGod. Now he was at leisure for just as much of divine meditationas a heart filled with the Spirit would thirst after. Now he could feet stand upon Mount Zion. My body, indeed, is in prison, butmy mind is free to study Christ, and the unsearchable riches of Hisinfinite, everlasting love. Mine enemies may draw then bolts andbars around me, but by faith I rise above them, and soar beyond thestars; they cannot fetter the wings of faith and hope; they cannotbind me from my God. And blessed be God that I have here thisremembrance, that, when I was out of prison, my work was to preachChrist and to save souls; which memory shall be a comfort to metill I die. And here, from the walls of our prison, as from one ofGods watch-towers, I and my companions in the kingdom andpatience of Jesus
