An early coloured illustration of Australian Satin Bower Bird (Ptilonorhynchus violaceus) in his bower trying to impress a female with his unusual courtship display. Satin bowerbirds mimic other local species as part of their courtship display. Amazingly they show artistic talent and arrange objects in the bower in order from smallest to largest, creating a perspective view which appears to impress females more if successfully applied.
