First cut in 1780 by Dr Christopher Alsop, the Cherhill White Horse was created by stripping away turf to expose the chalk beneath. The White Horse, together with the Landsdowne Monument, are a Wiltshire landmark and popular visitor attraction. Situated on a steep slope on the edge of the Cherhill Down, the White Horse and Obelisk are clearly visible from the A4 Calne to Marlborough road.
