It's not very often that, in rural Oxfordshire, you see a frozen lake appear from nowhere and then vanish again. This scenic row of trees is in my home village of Radley in Oxfordshire, England. It's close to the Thames, prone to flooding and also to fog rising from the river. Here the area was flooded after weeks of heavy rain and then frozen solid in a subsequent bitingly cold midwinter cold snap. Two weeks later, it was all gone.
