Type: Antique 18th century Italian copperplate map with original hand colour. "The Cherokee country, with the Western part of North Carolina, and Virginia". Map of the mid-continent, showing the confluence of the Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio & Wabash Rivers. The map covers parts of the modern US states of Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri and Arkansas. The map extends from approximately the location of Memphis in the south to St Louis in the north. There is a great amount of anecdotal information and observation printed on the map, including on the location of Cherokee settlements. The location of several forts are marked.
