William Page Dayton, son of Elias Dayton (3),was born in 1838, in the township of Great Bend,and lived a quiet, pastoral life upon the land pur-chased by his father in the early thirties. He waseducated in the little school house near his home,in the Ives district, and was a man quiet and modestin demeanor, and so honest in purpose that hisfriends unanimously elected him justice of the peacein 1865. He has held that office for five terms, hav-ing moved from one district to another. Alwaysregarded as a gentleman in all walks of life, and ofa deeply religious temperament, he was commis-sioned by the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese ofNorthern Pennsylvania to hold service when re-quired.
