Space Shuttle Endeavour damage. Damage to heat shield tiles on the underside of the space shuttle during mission STS-118 to the International Space Station (ISS). The crew of mission STS-118, which launched on 8th August 2007, managed to photograph the damage while docked at the ISS. They used the shuttle's robotic arm and the 50 foot long Orbiter Boom Sensor System (OBSS), which consists of different sensors used to scan the wings, the nose cap, and the crew compartment after each lift-off, and other regions on demand. The heat shield may need to be repaired before re-entry, which will mean prolonging Endeavour's mission. Photographed on 12th August 2007.
