The Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Artwas incorporated on the twenty-sixth day of Februar)-,1876, for the purpose, as stated in its charter, of establishingfor the State of Pennsylvania, in the City of Philadelphia,a Museum of Art in all its branches and technical applica-tions and with a special view to the development of the ArtIndustries of the State, to provide instruction in Drawing, 7 Painting, Modeling, Designing, etc., through practicalschools, special libraries, lectures and otherwise. Theinstitution to be similar in its general features to the SouthKensington Museum of London. The purpose of the institution as thus defined is distinctlyindustrial.
