WRIGHT Master Mechanic Fort Smith Light & Traction Company,Fort Smith, Ark. The illustrations herewith are of a pull-in truck whichis used for bringing in cars with broken axles under theirown power. This truck is made from four strips of iron,one channel, 10 ft. of chain, two small wheels and a fewbolts. It can be knocked down into three pieces asshown, and is carried in one corner of the emergency carso as to be on the job at all times. Upon arrival at the place at which it is to be used thepull-in truck is assembled on the track. The motor ofthe disabled car is chained up, the trucks are jacked up. CAR WITH BROKEN AXLE BEING TAKEN IN WITH EMERGENCYPULL-IN TRUCK and the pull-in truck is run under far enough to allowthe wheels of the broken truck to rest between two boltswhich extend through the pull-in truck frame as shownin the accompanying illustration. The pull-in truck isfastened up to the side frame of the car truck by meansof a chain through the ring which is attached to oneend of each side bar of the former. The car truck is thenlet down and the motor cut out if mounted on the brokenaxle. Should this emergency truck be used in pulling ina car equipped with single type trucks, such as Brill21-E, it is necessary to remove the brake beam so thatthe shoe heads clear the truck wheels. This puts thebrakes out of commission, but if there are no grades togo down the car can be controlled by the reverse, and ifthere are grades another car can be coupled on and the
