The revenues collected as property taxes from private timberlands are dependent upon the acreages listed by assessors and by the assessed values of those lands. In the mid-1960's, acreages of lands classified as timberlands increased and their average assessed values decreased due to implementation of State law requiring reclassification of certain marginal lands from agriculture to timber (fig. 41).
