Upon his return he enlisted againin Company E, Tenth Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Militia ofAshburnham, and was promoted successively through every grade ofmusician, non-commissioned officer and lieutenant, to captain of Com-pany E, Sixth Regiment in 1890, from which position he resigned inApril, 1892, after thirty-five years of almost continuous service in peaceand war.
