Chinese Sacred Lilies.—The Chinese Sacred Lily, or Sacred Lily of Japan.^is the Chinese emblem cf good luck. The Chinese Sacred Lily produces very large bulbs, measuring from 12 to 18 inches in circumference, which throw up from 5 to 10 flower sp kes'bearing clusters of 1-rge, perfect, waxy white blossoms, with yellow center of most delicious fragrance. They grow well in pots in a light and sandy so 1, but the most successful way of cul ivating is as the Chinese do—in water, as follows: Fil a glass or any kind of bowl wi h pebbles, small stones or coarse gravel, in which place the bulb, setting It about one-half if s depth so that it will be held firmly, then fill with water to the top of the pebbles and place it in a cool, sunny window. The bulb will at once commence a rapid growth and bloom in 3 to 5 weeks. The bulbs are so large and have so much vitality they can be kept dry all winter and be planted at any time when the flowers are de- sired.
