The next step is one which presents two alternatives:Either the beginner can get in touch with some other be-ginner and spend some time each week transmitting mes-sages back and forth to each other by means of a buzzerpractice set, or the beginner can listen in on his receivingset to the amateur transmitting stations, endeavoring topick up letters here and there. The second method is notapt to produce immediate results, for the reason that,much of the traffic is entirely too fast for the , certain radio telegraph broadcasting stationshave the beginner very much in mind these days, andtransmit at a very slow speed in order to furnish prac-tice for the beginner. One method of learning the code is to attend a radioschool. The schools, thanks to their wide experience, haveperfected methods of training beginners which produceearly results. But in the main one can teach ones selfif sufficient patience is exhibited. Listening to radiotelegraph stations and attempting to jot down on paperas many letters as are recognized finally results in copy-ing more and more letters and words until perfection isattained.
