Nevertheless, the two-strokemotorcycle engine up to 41/2 has shown itself to bequite satisfactory under normal conditions of use. Amachine with an engine of this type and power, havinga bore and stroke of 85 x 88 , was introduced atlast years show. This is the 4i;> Dunelt, which hasa two-stroke crankcase compression engine, three-speed. Four semi-elliptic springs supporting A. J. S. saddle independently of frame. But, gen-erally speaking, the four-cycle engine is still by far themore popular system, some 80 per cent of all machineshaving this type of engine. There are only isolated examples of engines with morethan two cylinders. A new machine appeared at Olympiawith a four-cylinder motor. This is the first Britishmotorcycle to have a four-cylinder engine, and it is be-lieved to be the first of any nationality of such an ad-vanced design as to embody overhead valves and cam-shaft, aluminum cylinders with steel liners and
