We came last September, the largest Freshman class that had yet enteredPurdue, and it was soon an established fact that we surpassed not only inquantity, but also in quality. It is worth mentioning here that there wereenrolled in our number more girls than usual, a fact which was appreciated bythe boys. The spirit with which we entered upon our duties and the earnestnessand zeal with which we worked was noticed by the faculty with rejoicing. Wewere soon well represented in the literary societies and in the glee and mandolinclubs. A few mornings after our arrival a large 02 was seen on the tank. It cannot be said that the usual tank scrap had taken place between Sophomoresand Freshmen, for owing to the lateness of the hour and inclemency of the weather, andpossibly to the number of Freshmen present, the Sophs did not venture forth.
