Zagreb is the capital and the largest city of the Republic of Croatia. It is located in the northwest of the country, along the Sava river, at the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain. The city has a rich history dating from the Roman times to the present day. Zagreb is the seat of the central government, administrative bodies and almost all government ministries. It is also a civic and transport hub where Central Europe, the Mediterranean and Southeast Europe regions most prominent building, and the tallest in the country, is its Gothic-style Roman Catholic Cathedral on Kaptol. Dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and to kings Saint Stephen and Saint Ladislaus, its prominent spires are landmarks that are visible from the entire city.
