Inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal naevus (ILVEN) on the arm of a 4-year-old girl. ILVEN is a rare disease of the skin that causes itchy red skin nodules due to epidermal overgrowth. The lesions tend to form in linear arrangements during childhood, and may later become malignant. The condition arises due to a defect in the ectoderm (which gives rise to skin) during foetal development. Steroid creams and surgery may be used to manage the symptoms, but there is no cure.
