He was sold out of flow- ering plants by 4 o'clock December 25, and had good success with holly and mis- tletoe baskets. C. W. Ward sent down some nice car- nations from Eureka, Cal., to Pelicano, Eossi & Co. for the holiday trade. According to Manager Shellgrain, business Christmas week at J. B. Bo- land's store showed a gain of twenty per cent over that of the corresponding period of last year. He says funeral work is keeping them busy this week. Mrs. E, E. Darbee says Christmas business at her retail store was four times as large as ever before. She had plenty of violets for shipping and filled a large out-of-town demand. Y. Oshima is bringing in some nice Eed Eadiance roses from his place at Stege, Contra Costa county, where, lie says, he grows the only ones of this va- riety in that vicinity. The E. W. McLellan Co. is bringing in a fine cut of freesias. The company has a whole house devoted to freesias, and now is shipping about 200 dozen blooms per day to Los Angeles. The cut is twice daily, making about 500 dozen per day, which is said to be the greatest cut ever made in this market. After a marked scarcity in valley for a good many weeks, limited offerings arrived Christmas week. P. Ferrari brought in a few dozen and will have more soon. Domoto Bros, have many pips in and will begin to cut in about two weeks, so the outlook is brighter than for some ti
