This improve-ment has been under consideration for anumber of years, but the matter wasbrought to a head by the passage of an actby the New York Legislature in 1923 requir-ing the electrification of all railroad lineswithin the limits of New York City on orbefore January i, 1926. Detail plans arebeing prepared for the first imit of thiswork, which will comprise the line from to South Beach and Tottenville, adistance of approximately miles. Theequipment will be of the most modem type,and very similar to that used on theBrooklyn-Manhattan transit lines.
