Memorials to Jim Fern and his wife Eileen in the churchyard in the Cotswold village of Slad, Gloucestershire UK Jim was a contemporary of Laurie Lee and went to school with him. In Cider with Rosie Laurie Lee referred to him as "Little Jim Fern". In later life Little Jim (as he became known) conducted guided walks around Slad pointing out landmarks mentioned in Cider with Rosie. Jim died in 2007 aged 89.
