Venice stocks some of the finest designer Murano glass, including special collections produced in collaboration with the island's top designers. Not an average souvenir stall by any means - the quality is top notch, and prices are definitely less than we would have paid back in London for equivalent items. Think of it as a factory outlet store - only for designer glassware What to buy: If you are going to be travelling all over Italy, there will be other cities that sell Murano Glass. However, I suggest buying it from Venice. Murano glass is from Murano Island in Venice anyways, so access to the better stuff and cheaper stuff is better in Venice anyways. I found some Murano Glass jewelry in Florence for a little cheaper than I got it in Venice, however the quality was not as good. You can find several little shops all around Venice that sell the same things so it keeps their prices pretty competitive. I checked out a couple of stores, but ended up getting most of my stuff in the street market near the Rialto Bridge. They had great quality and a bigger variety than some of the shops. Shop around a price search, especially if you arestaying in Venice long enough to price shop. Murano glass jewelry makes a great gift and for the most part is pretty sturdy so you can pack it well and it won't break. Most stores (even the markets) have bubble wrap for you to use if you need it for packing.
