Dushasana drags her away by the hair and then tries to disrobe her, but her sari keeps unfolding and unwrapping.

In the Hindu epic Mahabharata, Draupadi is the daughter of King Draupada of Panchala and the wife of the five Pandavas, who were the sons of Pandu. She is one of the five virgins of the ancient Hindu epic. In the epic, Dushasana, a Kurava brother, wanted Draupadi, who scorned him. After winning Draupadi and others in a game of dice, Dushasana drags her away by the hair and then tries to disrobe her, but her sari keeps unfolding and unwrapping—as pictured here in this 1913 illustration by Warwick Goble (1862-1943), a Victorian illustrator of children's books.
