Since 1997, the Spinningfields area of Manchester City Centre, between Deansgate and the River Irwell has been developed as a business, retail and residential development by Allied London. Hardman Square was created in 2006 by the demolition of the old Manchester Magistrates Court and Allied London has decided to keep the square green and undeveloped.
