At the Anderson Greenhouses, on Warren street, Arlin^^on, corn borers have damaged or destroyed chrysanthe- mums to the extent of over $7,000; stalks are completely riddled with them. The vermin came from infested weeds, which grew thickly outside the green- houses. The vermin crawled up the glass roofs, Mr. Anderson states, slid va. between the panes of glass and then spun webs in which they covered them- selves in the luxuriant chrysanthemum Slants. Cleaning up the weeds earlier 1 the season would not have been costly and would probably have saved the heavy loss under glass. Some large nearby celery growers estimate that over thirty per cent of their extensive plantings are affected. If all weeds and coarse vegetation are burned up before May each year, damage from corn borers can be much minimized. The coal situation continues to im- prove and soft coal prices show a fur- ther decline. Growers are not now worrying about their winter's fuel sup- ply, as they did a few weeks ago. Numerous coal cargoes continue to come from Great Britain. W. N. C. £. £. Bandall is starting a nursery at Beading, Mass., and not at Beading, Pa., as recently reported. Oleaaings from Oalvln's.
