Wave worn rock.

A high energy marine environment has washed away soft cliffs revealing the base layer of bedrock. Each individual layer of bedrock has been revealed and the leading edges are profiled, creating an abstract pattern. These gently sloping rock surfaces are exposed at low tide and represent the last remnants of an eroded headland. As the erosion continues the headland retreats and increases the length of the platform, that then affords some degree of protection against further aggressive erosion. This phenomenon is also known as a marine terrace.
