He graduated at the MilitaryAcademy June 17, 1862, and was promoted second lieu-tenant Corps of Engineers the same day. He servedduring the war of the Rebellion as assistant engineer ofthe Ninth Army Corps in the Northern Virginia cam-paign, and was engaged in the action of Kellys Ford andbattle of Manassas, where he was wounded,and for whichlie received the brevet of first lieutenant August 29, [862,for gallant and meritorious services, lie left the field on account of wounds, and was onleave to October 19, 1862, when he w as attached to theEngineer Battalion in the Maryland campaign of theArmy of the Potomac, and was engaged in constructing,repairing, and guarding bridges.
