A shakudo-mounted hunting hanger, German or French, circa 1730/40 Slender single-edged blade with a double-edged point and shallow fullers on both sides. Ornamental décor etched on both sides of the base of the blade with the engraved motto "Ne me tirez pas sans " behind a leaping stag and wild boar in the foreground. An arrow is etched on the back of the blade. Double-sided openwork guard plate of partly gilt shakudo with cherry blossom ornaments.
