Small bowel villi, light micrograph
Light micrograph of small bowel villi cross sections. The villi are finger-like projections in the small bowel, which increase the surface area available to absorb nutrients from digested food. Here, the villi appear as circular or polygonal structures when cut in horizontal cross sections. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 100x when printed at 10cm.
