A South German hunting hanger,2nd half of the 18th century. Single-edged blade,the lower half etched with scrolling bands and hunting motifs. The motto(transl.)"Hunting and loving does make one sad" engraved on one side. Brass hilt with ornamented quillons. Brown leather scabbard,the fittings display hunting motifs in relief(by-knife replaced). Blade stained in places. Length 75 cm. Comes with a leather belt,adjustable strap with frog,with gilded fittings. Leather with traces of age and wear,gilding somewhat rubbed.
