Orkney Islands, Landsat satellite image. North is at top. The lowlands are green, while the highlands are brown. The Orkney Islands are an archipelago situated in northeastern Scotland. The largest island (centre) is Mainland, the second largest (lower left of Mainland) is Hoy, and the island at lower right of Mainland is South Ronaldsay. The body of water between these islands is called Scapa Flow. The most northeasterly tip of the mainland (bottom left) is known as John o' Groats.
