Army sergeant Morris Fineberg is observed by Second Lieutenant Prank B. Ingersoll as he inserts a detonator into a German hand grenade. The grenade, known as the potato masher type, does not release shrapnel but instead kills through concussive force upon detonation. This photograph was taken on January 25, 1919, at the Pield Ammunition office, Ordnance Department, 1st Army in Romagne sur Montfaucon Meuse, France.
