The granite continues forabout 8 miles up the fiord on both sides, when it disappears,and alternates with gneiss. This gneiss forms the shore onboth sides of the fiord for from 7 to 8 miles up to the spotnamed Ivitut by the natives, where the kryolite 1 is name Ivitut (from Ivilc, grass) was given to this place bythe natives on account of its fertility.
