He was then assigned to the 3d Ky., cavalry with therank of lieutenant-colonel; was promoted brigadier-general Oct. 11,and, being assigned a brigade in Gen. Buells army, engaged at Shi-loh, Tenn., and served also in Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky. Heengaged in the siege of Corinth, commanded a division in the Armyof the Ohio in the Tennessee campaign, in July, 1862, was taken pris-oner at Gallatin, Aug. 21, 1862, and after his exchange in December,was placed in command of the 12th division of the Army of the Cum-berland.
