Aerial view of Fort Denison, the former convict site on Sydney Harbour, 1km east of Sydney Opera House. Formerly known as 'Pinchgut', it is now a tourist attraction. In the year 1900 it became the site of a notorious prank when sailor Charles Lightoller rowed to the island with a plan to fool locals into believing a Boer War raiding party was attacking Sydney. He raised a Boer flag and ignited a cannon on the island. He later admitted to the stunt in an autobiography and went on to survive the sinking of RMS Titanic, aboard which he was Second Officer and the most senior officer to survive.
