Mushroom coral, Fungia fungites have a circular outline, are relatively flat with a mouth at the center. The radiating septa (ridges) have rounded or pointed teeth on the upper margin. Can grow up to around 30cm in diameter. They are conspicuous and common members of coral reef communities. There are about 40 species of mushroom corals worldwide, with 11 of those belonging to the Indo-Pacific areas. Most species are free-living and unattached to the sea bottom.
