Trompe l'oeil dome and ceiling of Tilla-Kari (Gold) Medressa in the Registan, Samarkand, Uzbekistan

The famed Tilla-Kari or Gold Medressa is one of the three Medressas that face each other in the Registan in the ancient city of Samarkand Uzbekistan. The ceiling appears to be a dome, but it is flat. The apparent dome shape is due to the trompe l'oeil painted pattern.
