Art. XVII.—On a Hymenopterous Insect parasitic on Coccidse. By W. M. Maskell, [Read before the Philosophical Institute of Canterbury, 4:th July, 1878.] Plate IX, Some of the Coccids are much trouhled by parasites. In this country Ihave not found this to be the case upon the naked-bodied species, Lecanium, etc. But some of the Diaspidte, particularly MytUaspis pomorum, have oftenin their shells minute white Acari; and as in these cases many of theenclosed eggs have been shrivelled or empty, I imagine that the Acarus maydevour them. The insect I am now describing attacks some of the indigenous test-bearing Coccidte. When in June, 1877, I found my first specimens ofCtenochiton perforatus, I did not at first understand the nature of an object. ,
